IAEA, not US, sole body to confirm Iran's commitments under JCPOA

IAEA, not US, sole body to confirm Iran's commitments under JCPOA

TEHRAN, Oct. 08 (MNA) – A senior official of Foreign Ministry and member of Iran’s nuclear negotiating team Hamid Baeedinejad described the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as the only competent authority to address Iran's commitments under JCPOA.

In response to the efforts of the United States to reverse the Agency’s reports confirming Iran has lived up to its commitments under the JCPOA, Baeedinejad posted a message on Saturday.

“Many countries and political leaders in the world are waiting for the decision of the US government to declare their final policy on JCPOA. There are plenty of behind-the-scenes talks to influence Trump's decision, and based on this, several formulas and methods for adopting a new US policy are underway,” he underlined.

But in general, he added, albeit with the words and rhetoric that the government can incorporate in this political statement, rejecting Iran's compliance with its commitments under the JCPOA, in case that the IAEA has confirmed it eight times, is the clear violation of international law and the provisions of the Agency.

He asserted that the US government can declare its policies toward Iran in the framework of international policy, but in declaring Iran’s adherence to nuclear commitments, it has to adopt the policies defined by the Agency, which is the only body to confirm Iran’s abiding by nuclear-related commitments under JCPOA.
